Synopsis

1958. Tom Ripley is a young American of modest background and good culture, with a particular talent for imitations and music. One evening he is hired as a pianist at a party for wealthy New Yorkers, where he is approached by shipping magnate Mr. Greenleaf: mistakenly believing him to be a student of Princeton University, Greenleaf offers him a hefty compensation to go to Italy to retrieve his son Dickie, where he lives by the family fortune. Tom reaches Dickie and his girlfriend Marge in Procida, in the Gulf of Naples, and is more and more charmed by the young man's personality and his lavish and joyful life. It does not take long for the appearances to be denied, and for the relationships between the three to become more and more tense.
