Synopsis

The epic of travelling theatres in Italy, from the first post-war period to the advent of television, with a foray into the present, is recounted by the voice of those who lived through those years: the Carrara family. They represent one of the last Art families still in activity, a theatrical dynasty that descends directly from the ancient travelling companies of the 16th century. Their story is that of a theatre, the popular theatre, that no longer exists and of a country, ours, that has changed radically from the second post-war period to the mid-1960s. In a picaresque journey from the south to the north, starting from Sicily and arriving in the Veneto, over the last century the Carrara have crossed the whole boot, taking theatre where theatre would never have been.
