Synopsis

England, 1910. Kate Croy finds herself on the breadline after the death of her mother. The only hope for livelihood is to ask for help from her rich aunt Maude, who in exchange expects Kate to end her relationship with the penniless journalist Merton. The opportunity to escape her aunt's blackmail seems to arise when Kate meets Millie, a wealthy heiress consumed by an incurable disease. Kate follows her on a trip to Venice, letting Merton join her and sensing a possibility of redemption in the infatuation between the two.
