The Veneto Film Commission announces the end of filming of the film ACROSS THE RIVER AND INTO THE TREES based on Ernest Hemingway's last novel, directed by the Spanish director Paula Ortiz (The Bride, Chrysalis).
An international cast composed of Liev Schreiber, Matilda De Angelis, Josh Hutcherson, Laura Morante, Sabrina Impacciatore and Massimo Popolizio for the film written by the BAFTA Award winner Peter Flannery.
Set in Italy during the Second World War, “Across the River and Into the Trees”" tells the story of U.S. Army Colonel Richard Cantwell, a bona fide war hero who faces the news of his terminal illness with stoic defiance. Determined to spend the weekend in quiet solitude, indulge in one last duck hunt and visit his old haunts in Venice, Cantwell's plans begin to unravel after a chance encounter with a young countess who ignites in him hope for renewal.
“Across The River and Into The Trees”" captures a fleeting moment of immortality where time stands still. The story contains all of Hemingway's great themes, such as love, war, youth, and age.
Filming, which began in mid-December 2020 under strict anti-Covid regulations, took place in some of the most evocative locations in the Veneto region, from Venice and Nervesa della Battaglia, to Lio Piccolo and Treviso.
The film was supported by the Veneto Region POR-FESR 2014-2020 and the Veneto Film Commission.
“Across the River and Into the Trees” is produced by Robert MacLean for Tribune Pictures together with John Smallcombe and Ken Gord. The Italian producer is also involved in the co-production Andrea Biscaro.
The Italian executive production was entrusted to’Augustus Color.
