The documentary will premiere on Friday, October 15th “Marina Cicogna – Life and Everything Else” by Andrea Bettinetti.
Marina Cicogna was the first female producer to establish herself in a male-dominated world. A protagonist of the great season of Italian auteur cinema between the late 1960s and the 1970s, she is the winner of an Oscar and two GrandPrix at Cannes and a Golden Lion in Venice. An aristocratic, courageous, and unconventional free woman who has always done what she wanted, she finally opens up about herself through conversations, clips from her films, photos, and memories of friends and celebrities from the worlds of film, culture, and fashion.
Avant-garde producer, grandson of Giuseppe Volpi, inventor of the Venice Film Festival, he worked with directors such as Elio Petri, Lina Wertmuller, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Vittorio De Sica, Sergio Leone, Francesco Rosi, Liliana Cavani and actors such as Mariangela Melato, Giancarlo Giannini, Gian Maria Volonté…
The famous producer has always had strong ties to the Veneto region, and a significant portion of the documentary was filmed between Venice and Treviso. The locations in the lagoon were chosen among the "symbolic" places for Marina Cicogna's career and private life: the Hotel Excelsior at Lido, Casa Cicogna alla Salute, Palazzo Volpi and Rialto (for Doge Cicogna), and the Grand Canal. In the Treviso area, some scenes were filmed at Villa Barbaro in Maser.
«"Making a documentary about Marina Cicogna," the director states, "means shedding light on a leading figure in Italian cinema over the last fifty years, chronicling the fate of an intelligent woman whose determination also conceals deep personal pain, along with one of the most important chapters in the history of our cinema. Alejandro de la Fuente and Elena Stancanelli accompanied me throughout the creative process, bringing their perspective, passion, and cinematic culture.".
