Presentation

Agordo is a very nice town in the province of Belluno in Veneto. It is the main center of a magnificent mountain valley, the Conca Agordina, located about 100 kilometres (62 miles) north of Venice, in the heart of the Dolomites. It was a very important mining center ? its Institute, founded in 1867, is still one of the main in both Italy and Europe - as well as a commercial and administrative crossroads between Venice and the Tyrol. It was the hometown of a famous scientist, Tito Livio Burattini, who developed a system of measure similar to today?s International System of Unites, and it is the headquarters of Luxottica, the world?s biggest eyewear company. The buildings of the old town date back to the 16th-17th century, but they were probably built upon more ancient ruins.
