Presentation

The Basilica of St. Anastasia is Verona?s largest church and the most important Gothic monument in town. The construction was begun at the end of the 13th century (1290) and lasted over two centuries. The brick façade is divided into three vertical sections corresponding with the internal naves; although unfinished the façade has nevertheless an imposing and solemn appearance. The magnificent portal is decorated with sculptures and frescoes as well as the interior, with Latin-cross plan, where valuable works of art are enshrined such as the famous, extraordinary fresco by Pisanello, Saint George and the Princess, which is a remarkable example of the international Gothic style in Verona.
