Presentation

Borghetto is a hamlet of Valeggio sul Mincio (VR) and is listed among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy. The small village developed around 1400 along the Mincio River, around a series of watermills. Even now the historic center retains the appearance of a medieval village, thanks to the bell tower, the historic wheels of the mills, once used for milling wheat and grain, and the Visconteo or Long Bridge. The bridge, 650 meters long and 25 meters wide, is part of a fortified dam built in 1393 at the behest of Gian Galeazzo Visconti, Duke of Milan. The Visconti Bridge is also connected to the imposing Scaliger Castle, and both are part of the ancient fortified complex of the Serraglio, once a means of defending the territory whose walls reached 16 kilometers.
