Borgo di Gorgo

Not far from Fossalta di Portogruaro there is the ancient and charming village of Gorgo. Here you can still see some buildings with architectural features that can be traced back to its past as a bishop's feud: for example, inside the village there is an ancient tower and part of the walls that surrounded the town. In the innermost part of the village, there is the imposing presence of the bishop's large manor house, now privately owned. In addition, it is possible to visit a building dating back to 1329, dedicated to Santa Cristina: this construction, indicated as a 'church', was never actually consecrated. In the 17th century, in order to celebrate mass on the feast of the saint, the parish priest needed temporary permission from the Bishop to celebrate mass there. Inside the church, there is a 16th century fresco of St Sebastian and St Valentine. The Church of Santa Cristina was restored in 2007 and it is currently used for several cultural events, meetings and courses.
