Presentation

It?s one of the most beautiful churches of Verona, which was built on the remains of a pre-existing early Christian basilica (4th-9th century), and that underwent numerous modifications. The façade, tripartited by triangular buttresses, is a unique combination of Gothic and Romanesque styles and has large two-light windows and a central rose window. The interior has a Romanesque structure but it was given its present-day late-Gothic appearance during the 15th century with the addition of three cross vaults. In front of the cathedral there is the Piazza del Duomo surrounded by historic buildings among which the palazzo del Canonicato (partially rebuilt in 1948) that houses the Biblioteca Capitolare (Capitular Library), one of the most important ecclesiastical libraries in Europe.
