Lago di Santa Croce

The Lake Santa Croce is located in Alpago, the south-eastern area of the Province of Belluno on the border with Treviso. It is the largest of the province and the second largest in Veneto, right after Lake Garda. Its origins are natural, but it was artificially extended later on. Being one of the windiest sites of the province, it is an important destination for windsurf, kitesurf and sail lovers. It is well served by communication routes (railway and motorway), and it is situated at about 10-15 minutes by car from Belluno. Anyway, facilities can be found also on its shores and in the nearby. There is also a natural site: the Sbarai Oasis, a vast wetland with different habitats related to changes in water levels. It was used as a location in the movie ?Vajont?, and it is considered one of the? Italian Loch Ness!
