The town of Malcesine (VR) is developed around the Scaliger Castle on a small promontory on the Verona side of Lake Garda, on the slopes of Mount Baldo. The municipal territory covers an area of 68 km2 with a strong difference in elevation: from 65 meters at the level of Lake Garda to 2,000 meters at the summit of Mount Baldo. The Malcesine-monte Baldo cable car allows visitors to reach an altitude of 1,760 meters via rotating cabins with a 360-degree panoramic view. The medieval village, the heart of the town, features a small harbor, small squares and a maze of picturesque alleys, whose buildings are reflected in the waters of the lake, often the scene of important sailing regattas. Goals of interest are the Scaliger Castle with its original pentagonal keep and the Venetian Gothic-style Palazzo dei Capitani, seat of the Captain of the Lake at the time of the Venetian Republic. Recently restored, the palace contains some frescoes and a beautiful lakeside garden.
