Presentation

Piazza Libertà is located in the historic center of Bassano del Grappa (VI). Rectangular in shape, it is characterized by an elegant portico, the neoclassical facade of the Church of St. John the Baptist, and the loggia of the Town Hall. The loggia was built during the 15th century and a few years later was enriched by a large blue-faced clock made by master Corrado da Feltre. Opposite the Church of San Giovanni, on the opposite side of the square, are also the houses of the Remondini family, founders of one of the largest publishing companies of the 1700s. It was Giovanni Antonio Remondini who founded a printing house in 1660, which his heirs developed, creating a true industrial center of printed paper in Bassano. On the perimeter of the west side of the square, however, a statue with the lion of St. Mark, symbol of Venetian rule, and a statue of the city's patron saint, St. Bassianus, by the workshop of Orazio Marinali, stand on two columns.
