Built in the 1st century B.C. it was subjected to numerous collapses, rebuildings and restoration works in the course of time before acquiring its current shape with five arches. The two white stone arches to the left date to the Roman period, the central arch is in bricks and dates back to 1520, while the fourth arch to the left is a Medieval remake dating to 1298. On that occasion the bridge was also provided with a defensive tower built at one of its end.
