Villa Rizzardi e Giardino di Pojega

Castles, villas, palaces

The property of Pojega is located on a sunny slope in the township of Negrar in Valpolicella and the estate, owned by the Counts Rizzardi since 1649, includes a large hilly area planted with vineyards, the ideal background for the villa and its garden. The current villa was built between 1868 and 1870, a project of the architect Filippo Messedaglia. With an eclectic style that blends Baroque, Renaissance and Neoclassicism, today the villa is the seat of meetings, events, exhibitions and private ceremonies. In the centre of the Pojega vineyards, Count Antonio Rizzardi commissioned the architect Luigi Trezza in 1783 to create a garden, whose original structure has been fully respected over the centuries and is still well maintained today. It extends for 54,000 square meters, on three parallel levels; in a semi-circular formation a green amphitheatre was created with steps carved into the box hedge rows. There is no shortage of statues depicting mythological characters and animals in ston
