There's great anticipation in Verona for the September 27 start of filming on the new Netflix film "Love in the Villa," written and directed by Mark Steven Johnson and starring Tom Hopper and Kat Graham. The capital of Verona was chosen by the American production as a "symbol of love" for the beauty of its piazzas and historic views, and for the monuments dedicated to the immortal literary figure of Juliet. Scenes will take place in Piazza delle Erbe, Piazza Bra, the Ponte di Pietra, and the courtyard of Juliet's House, with a stop on Lake Garda.
In the story, a young American woman (Kat Graham) takes a trip to romantic Verona after a heartbreak, but discovers that the villa she booked has mistakenly been reserved for another guest, a charming and cynical Englishman (Tom Hopper), with whom she will find herself having to share her holidays.
Venetian crews and support professionals, as well as extras and walk-ons, have already been recruited for the six-week shoot in the region, which will be organized by Nicola Rosada's executive producer of "360 Degrees." The Veneto Film Commission supported the film's pre-production phase thanks to LOCATION SCOUTING FUND, made available by the Regional Department of Tourism, achieving an important goal, considering that the film will be distributed worldwide in 2022 on the Netflix platform, conveying the beauty of the city of Verona and its territory.
One of the Veneto Film Commission's strategic functions is to facilitate and support productions that choose Veneto as a location, leveraging its local connections and creating links between municipal and provincial representatives and national and international productions. This helps streamline certain processes, especially in the pre-production phase.
“Netfix's project is international and contemporary, highlighting the city of Verona, making it a protagonist,” says Jacopo Chessa, Director of the Veneto Film Commission. “The start of this production is a welcome opportunity to renew the relationship between the Veneto Film Commission, the City of Verona, and the local executive producers who, as in this case, have acted as liaisons with industry platforms that are increasingly present and valuable for the variety of projects and the continuity they guarantee to the entire audiovisual sector.”.
“Love in the Villa "This marks, along with other productions already operating in the region, the beginning of a journey that will make Veneto a major film location with strong international appeal," adds Luigi Bacialli, President of the Veneto Film Commission. "In recent months, Director Chessa and his team have established close relationships with Italian and international producers, which have yielded significant results. All of this will benefit the local economy and boost employment, rewarding Veneto audiovisual professionals.".
“Love in the Villa” is produced by Margret Huddleston and Stephanie Slack (Off Camera Entertainment), directed by Mark Steven Johnson (known for his films related to the Marvel universe, such as “Daredevil” and “Ghost Rider”), with Kat Graham (among her most successful roles Bonnie Bennett in the series “the Vampire Diaries”) and Tom Hopper (in cinema he ranges from the thriller, “Terminator: Dark Fate”, to the comedy, “The Beauty and the Beast”, on TV he is the star of very popular series including “Game of Thrones” and “Barbarians”)
Director Mark Steven Johnson's statement: "Now, more than ever, people need love and laughter in their lives. Humans seem so divided right now. But ultimately, everyone wants the same thing: to love and be loved. That's what I'm talking about in the film." Love in the Villa”.
