The selection of projects registered for the competition has been concluded 4th edition of Nord\/Est\/Doc\/Camp<\/strong>, the consultancy and tutoring laboratory for medium-length and feature-length documentaries produced and co-produced in the Tri-Veneto region, which has established itself as a unique event and opportunity for local producers and authors.<\/p>

Nord\/Est\/Doc\/Camp is an initiative of Bolzano Film Festival Bozen<\/strong>, Euganea Film Festival and Pordenone Docs Fest<\/strong>, supported by IDM Music & Film Commission S\u00fcdtirol<\/strong>, Trentino Film Commission<\/strong>, Veneto Film Commission<\/strong>, Friuli Venezia Giulia Film Commission<\/strong>, and the collaboration of the FVG Audiovisual Fund<\/strong>.<\/p>

The four selected projects, which will undertake a consultancy and promotion process with qualified tutors and industry professionals, are: Grand-Popo<\/em> by Nuno Escudeiro (production Helios Sustainable Films, Bolzano), My sister is a pirate<\/em> by Jacopo Mutti (Jump Cut production, Trento), When it's ready, the hay sings<\/em> by Letizia Buoso (co-production Headline, Rovereto, and Okta Film, Trieste), and Sonic Silence<\/em> by Alessandro Ambroggi and Ludovico Chincarini (Orango production, Verona).<\/p>

In addition to covering the regions and provinces addressed by the workshop, the selection also involves international co-productions: the Portuguese company Bam Bam Cinema and the French Solent Production for Grand-Popo, and the Swedish production Sisyfos Film for My Sister Is a Pirate.<\/p>

The 2026 edition of Nord\/Est\/Doc\/Camp will take place in three stages: the first hosted by Cinemazero and Pordenone Docs Fest on March 12th and 13th<\/strong>, with screening and discussion with the tutors of the rough cuts of the four documentaries; the second in the context of the industry activities of Bolzano Film Festival Bozen, April 13th,<\/strong> will see the presentation of the projects to an audience of professionals, followed by meetings between the teams and invited guests; the last one on the occasion of Euganea Film Festival, August 28th and 29th<\/strong>, for a workshop on promotion, distribution, marketing, communication and festival strategy, and specific consulting sessions for each of the projects.<\/p>

Grand-Popo<\/span><\/p>

Synopsis<\/p>

Grand-Popo, Benin, was built on a narrow peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mono River, where the coastline is receding year after year. According to oral testimonies, over the past century the ocean has swallowed up nearly eighteen kilometers of land, erasing homes, sacred sites, and traces of the town's past. The film follows a community whose life is inextricably linked to the sea and the ancestral cosmologies that define both home and loss. Evra, a singer-songwriter, feels called by his ancestors to stay and protect the village, but he is torn between his responsibility to his family and the impossible task entrusted to him. Roger, a tour guide, preserves the town's memory through stories that intertwine myth and history. Kpesoui, a Vodun priestess, conducts rituals aimed at restoring the balance between humans, spirits, and the sea. As the sea advances and state infrastructure redraws the coastline, the village enters a moment of profound uncertainty. Promises of protection coexist with the risk of irreversible loss, and there is no clear path forward.<\/p>

Biography<\/p>

Nuno Escudeiro (born 1986, Portugal) is a filmmaker and multimedia artist living and working in Italy. He holds a Master's degree in Media Studies from the University of Aveiro and a specialization in Documentary Directing from ZeLIG \u2013 Documentary School. His work focuses on politicized landscapes and the exploration of the idiosyncrasies of territories and populations affected by transformative events such as migration and climate change. His first feature-length documentary, The Valley (2019), received the Emerging International Filmmaker Award at Hot Docs in Toronto and has been screened internationally in collaboration with the United Nations Human Rights Council, Arte, Public S\u00e9nat, the International Commission of Jurists, and others. His work has been presented at the BFI London Film Festival, Uppsala Short Film Festival, Les Arcs, DOK.fest Munich, DocPoint Helsinki, Festival d'Avignon, Dublin Fringe, and many other international festivals.<\/p>

Synopsis<\/p>

A black flag with a skull flutters from a window, among the many anonymous ones in a Milanese building. Inside, my sister and I have transformed the house into a pirate ship: clothes hanging in the wind become sails, rooms change shape, and dishes become part of the crew. This is the world that began to take shape when my sister Carmen asked me to help her organize a LARP, a live-action role-playing game. I was looking for a way to reconnect with her, and making a film was my chance. I proposed a deal: I'll help her build her LARP, and she'll help me make this documentary, which becomes a role-playing game all our own. Thus was born My Sister Is a Pirate, to tell the story of what happens when two siblings decide to stop playing the adults' game\u2014and invent their own, like they did as children. As the LARP takes shape, we pass the camera around like a turn-based game, transforming everyday gestures into rituals, and letting our imaginations change the rules of reality. The game becomes a space for dialogue between the unpredictable world of childhood, which Carmen cherishes, and the rigid world of adulthood, which I try to escape.<\/p>

Jacopo Mutti<\/p>

Biography<\/p>

Jacopo Mutti is a filmmaker and cinematographer working across independent film and commercial production. Born in Parma in 1990, he trained in directing and video art at the IED in Milan, after an initial focus on drawing and foreign literature. After his studies, he began working as an editor on commercials and documentaries. During those years, he also handled photography for digital campaigns, projects that supported his first experiments in documentary filmmaking. This dual experience was a true visual training ground for him, a fluid and hybrid context that allowed him to develop a flexible, instinctive style, attentive to relationships with people, spaces, and light. In recent years, he has also worked as a cinematographer for commercials and documentary projects. His personal research currently focuses on projects that explore the boundaries between adolescence and adulthood, reality and imagination, using documentary and genre film as tools to construct shared narrative devices, open spaces for play, and interrogate the present. In 2021, he co-directed, with Nicol\u00f2 Braggion, Arimo, his first feature-length documentary, developed within the In Progress laboratory and produced with the support of Per Chi Crea (SIAE\/MIC). The film premiered at the Filmmaker Festival in Milan, where it won the Prospettive Award.<\/p>

Synopsis<\/p>

Just beyond the 46th parallel north, the African and Eurasian plates collide, forming a valley fringed by peaks of coral and starfish: my grandmother was also born here, in 1906, an Austro-Hungarian, and emigrated, an Italian, in the 1920s. A century later, I see why. In 2014, I climbed into the valley for the first time to research what happened to her. I was able to live at the Paneveggio Park headquarters, and through encounters with the current community, I gathered the first fragments. Until 2018, when Storm Vaia overtook the peaks and crashed into the forest, opening paths among the unspoken, revealing ghosts and survivals. It changed the world we create by being together, between families and species, between past and present, interconnected: silences took on a new meaning, I revisited the archives with new eyes, and saw a common thread emerge. The film presents it in 10 chapters, while the Mediterranean has become a hot spot on the planet and we return to desire War, the Third World.<\/p>

Letizia Buoso<\/p>

Biography<\/p>

Letizia Buoso is a playwright, dramaturg, and filmmaker. Her long practice of listening, creating, and composing in theater since 2000 led her to the street in 2010 to film the short film<\/p>

Untitled, Best Documentary at Musa: Digitale Feminine Plural in 2011. She studied Documentary Directing at Ateliers Varan in 2012, then in workshops, such as with Sylvain George and Pedro Costa. After her first shorts and the music video for Alone with the Moon for Teho Teardo and Blixa Bargeld, she began working on her first feature film in 2014. She teaches writing in formal and informal contexts, and History and Language of Cinema and Audiovisual at the European Institute of Design.<\/p>

Sonic Silence<\/span><\/p>

Synopsis<\/p>

Alen, 45, a tattoo artist, lives in Biha\u0107, Bosnia. He was only 10 years old when his father disappeared during the war, never returning. He is one of over 7,500 people who disappeared in the Bosnian war. For over thirty years, Alen has been searching for his father's remains. His uncle Jasmin, a veteran, and his 10-year-old son Irfan support him. For over twenty years, Alen has combed the forests near the Loskunsk Bridge with a metal detector. In 2025, he posted a video on Facebook offering ten thousand euros to anyone who could provide verified information about his father's burial site. A former deserter from the Republika Srpska Army responded. After 32 years, Alen found a mass grave, digging illegally and without the support of the authorities. The police must now intervene. Has the moment Alen has waited 32 years for finally arrived? Alen is once again facing the Kafkaesque and paralyzing Bosnian political system. Will he be able to reconcile with his past?<\/p>

Biographies<\/p>

Alessandro Ambroggi was born in Verona in 1983. After graduating with honors from the University of Pisa in "Cinema, Music, and Theater" (CMT) with a thesis on documentary filmmaking, he began his career and training in documentary and fiction filmmaking. He attended a course taught by Leonardo di Costanzo at Atelier Varan (Femis) and an editing course taught by Paolo Cottignola. In 2009, he began working as an assistant cameraman on short and feature-length films. In 2020, he founded the production company Orango with Ludovico Chincarini. Ludovico Chincarini was born in Valdagno, Vicenza, in 1985. He graduated in Artistic and Entertainment Techniques from Ca' Foscari University of Venice with a thesis on participatory documentary filmmaking. He has participated in numerous feature-length fiction and documentary productions in Italy and abroad, for cinema and television. In 2020, he founded the production company Orango with Alessandro Ambroggi. Together, they direct and produce numerous short documentaries commissioned by NGOs and foundations, in parallel with their commercial productions. The experience gained over the years has led them to focus their research on social issues, both in Italy and abroad.<\/p>
