The Dog Stars – Le stelle dopo la fine, directed by Ridley Scott, is based on Peter Heller’s novel of the same name, with a screenplay by Mark L. Smith and Christopher Wilkinson.
Produced by Scott Free Productions and 20th Century Fox and distributed in Italy by The Walt Disney Company Italia, the film follows the story of Hig (Jacob Elordi), a pilot who has survived a deadly pandemic that has decimated humanity.
The cast also includes Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin and Guy Pearce, alongside Jacob Elordi.
The production used locations in three different Italian regions: Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Abruzzo.
The main location used in Veneto was the Cansiglio Forest, between the provinces of Belluno and Treviso. The Belluno Prealps plateau, Polcenigo, The Cansiglio forest, Vallorch, the Cimbrian villages, Le Rotte and La Genzianella were the locations chosen for the shoot. Several key and spectacular scenes were filmed in these places, including the crash of a Cessna plane. Around 400 people were involved in the production, including cast and crew.
Coordination of the various institutional bodies involved in preparing the set was handled by the Veneto Film Commission and Veneto Agricoltura, which provided logistical support using the former NATO hangar as an operations centre.
The Dog Stars – Le stelle dopo la fine has an estimated production budget of $100 million and will be released in Italian cinemas on 26 August.
