This training program is designed to support Sustainability Managers interested in acquiring the skills to work in audiovisual production.
“"Green Skills for Cinema and Audiovisual Production" is an advanced training course divided into theoretical sessions and practical exercises. The course examines the latest developments in sustainable production in Europe, analyzes recent case studies, and brings together professionals such as location managers, producers, film offices, and film commissions.
The course aims to define best practices and produce useful materials for film and sustainability professionals, guiding the audiovisual sector through a transition in production methodologies. The course includes in-person and online sessions to develop environmental management skills applied to film productions.
The partner organizations recognize the need to develop an innovative training program aimed at updating and re-skilling professionals to minimize the environmental impact of the sets.
THE STRUCTURE
The advanced training program is structured into three online sessions and three in-person sessions, which will take place in Veneto, Italy, in early February 2026; in Central Macedonia, Greece, in spring 2026 during the Thessaloniki International Documentary Film Festival; and in Mallorca, Spain, in July 2026 during the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest. Each online session will be followed by a three-day in-person workshop. Representatives of local production companies will also participate in the sharing sessions.
Participants in this training will gain a comprehensive understanding of several key aspects related to sustainability management in audiovisual production:
They will learn how audiovisual production is organised, enabling them to identify the appropriate tasks, roles and times for the intervention of the Sustainability Manager during production phases, such as pre-production, principal photography and film making.
They will develop the capacity to engage effectively with institutional contacts and producers, focusing on the sustainability needs of sets and promoting collaboration for the implementation of sustainable practices.
Participants will become familiar with widely used sustainability tools, including guidelines, carbon calculators, and certification processes. They will also practice using these calculators and simulations to measure and forecast carbon emissions.
“Green Skills for Cinema and Audiovisual Production” will also develop best practices through practical exercises, which can be shared to raise awareness among individuals and public institutions about key measures for more sustainable film production.
